New Innovative Ukulele Half-Strap Prototype “Uke Leash”

Now available at ukeleash.com This video introduces a new design for supporting a ukulele without having to install any strap buttons, glues, tapes or adhesives. It doesn’t use a hook on the delicate soundboard area, and doesn’t permanently alter the ukulele in any way. If you are interested in being in the first group of prototype testers, email me to get a survey form (email is at end of video). I will choose test market participants after reviewing the surveys. Video is about 9 and one half minutes long. Get your survey in before Feb 11, 2010 to be considered for this first round of testing. Prototype testers may keep the ukulele half-strap, but will be asked to fill out a questionnaire after a few weeks. There are a very small number of these prototypes available, so it is very important that each participant follows through with the questionnaire. Thanks Lori

An interesting video, Lori. Well-explained.
yep, just about had that idea except for the brilliant part. Well done!
Is there a materials list? Great idea for my Sweetheart Ukulele that i do not want to mar.
Hey Kissing. I play uke, remember? My ukulele addiction has kind killed my oc addiction though. :/
lol what are you doing here
Absolutely brilliant!
Bella idea!
@nonayourbeeswax I haven’t noticed any armpit pressure, but there are the other 3 choices. Most common button straps give me a little neck strain, but the arm band (version 2) and the belt loop positions seem to be better in that regard.
Lori
Nice, but it looks like it would it would hurt your armpit after a while of playing.
I made something like this for my uke, getting all the stuff from the craft store for under $10. I decided to hold the head next to the bridge with braided nylon string(thin) tied to my connector loop. Also mine wasn’t half, as I it’s an ele-uke so I made it long enough to go to the connector on the butt of it. The positions of this half strap idea are really clever, especially for those that like to hold the uke with their fore-arm. Yay for makers!
DARN! A day (or is it two already?!) late! What a fantastic idea! I’ve been trying to figure out what to do about a strap and haven’t liked any of my current choices. Please let me know when you begin to sell them! THANK YOU!!!
I soooooooo need one of those!!!! Awesome!!
You’ve thought of everything! I can’t wait to see it in action!
brilliant idea
good luck
the leg position seems to be made for you! no pants needed at all…
of course you could go for position five then, too, just make the loop even smaller^^
good idea Lori! it reminds me of the many types of saxophone straps that I used. but they usually need to be more complicated as the weight they have to carry is way bigger…
Very cool!
Oh, sorry then. Love to see the final product. I’d spend $15 top for a strap but still lower the better.
Niiiiiice!
Why leather?…i think your idea is good…just get some other colors, not only solid but some funky ones, like rainbow, etc…For girls of course pink!
I think 10 bucks would be a good price to start.
Guys, it looks fantastic!…No modification to your ukulele is a great idea!…I will e-mail you for sure!
I think it’s a great alternative,to straps with plastic hooks(that scratch soundhole.)or drilling holes in my precious ukes………..I have an additional mounting idea; How about using the shoulder strap portion going around the body of the uke,and under the strings????…..yes,no….maybe?
nice idea, it beats my boot lace. like that it’s a half strap, gotta heavy headed oscar schmidt ant this would be perfect
This looks interesting! I’ve sent you an email. I think the webbing would be much more comfortable than leather, unless you are talking about a very soft pliable leather. So less expense, softer material, lots of colour choices. That would be good.
@emrextreme
This is a working prototype. The colors used were chosen so they would show up on the video. This is not a final product, just something to test the concept. It could be ultimately made of leather, and nicer buckles. How much would you spend? Or will webbing do the job for most people at a lower price?
